Desert Botanical Gardens

My sister was off this week - no teaching because it's spring break - so she and I headed over to the Desert Botanical Gardens on Wednesday.  Our hope was to get some cool pictures of the butterflies as well as anything else we could find.  I had a few that I liked, not loved.  At any rate, I'll let you decide . . .

1. I really like the composition of the shot. It's really beautiful. A little blurry on the butterfly when blown up, but I really like look of this one.

2. Good detail and sharpness on the butterfly in this one. Overall, I like the composition better on the one above, but it's still a good shot.

3. I really like the colors in this shot. It's really interesting with the orange in the background and the detail is good. I might've cropped a little bit of the right side out and put the butterfly further to the right, but it's still a cool shot. Good contrast and again love the colors!!!

4. Good lighting. I would maybe crop this one on the left and leave the butterfly on the far left with the dark green background on the right. The contrast would make the butterfly stand out alot and the background on the left is a little distracting. Good detail as well and sharp.

5. I really like this one. The composition is great. The lighting is wonderful. Texture and contrast are good. I would have like to seen more detail on the butterfly's wings. Again excellent eye for composition and interesting shots. Good background colors as well.

6. My favorite of the bunch!!!! Great backlighting that gives detail to the wings. A very soft glow and beautiful image. Overall, excellent job!

7. The flare shot is cool, and the patterns are good. Good job!!!

Good shots again and hopefully I'm helpful with my comments. I think you are doing really, really well!!! It's tough to get wildlife shots and think about aperture as well as shutter speed. Anyway, I'll have more pictures to post tonight, I gotta get Jake now because he's starting to fuss a little in the swing. I'm really looking forward to the class. Have a good weekend!
